First two mintues of Four Weddings and a Funeral

Four weddings and a Funeral was realsed in 1994 and is a Romcom.
In the first two mintues we see all of the four main characters and what there like. The first thing we see is the opening credits of the actors. We then see all of the characters alarms going off and what there like.
They also have credits coming up during the whole openign two mintues.
We also see a woman looking in the mirror and putting dresses up to her to descide what to wear.
Throughout the first two mintues of the film there is a range of camera angles such as; long shot, close-up, pan shot and many more.

Previous British Romcom Bafta Winners

* Love Actually realeased in 2003, was nominated for 19 different Baftas, and won 9 of them. They one best British Film. They also won best supporting role and actor/actress, best actress, best comedy, best newcomer and best British actor/actress.

Outstanding British Films

My Week with Marilyn - Doc Drama
Senna - Biography
Shame - Drama
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - Thriller Drama
We Need To Talk About Kevin - Thriller

All of these films have been giving the title of 'outstanding British films', and are up for Baftas this year. The fact that there is such a wide range shows how British films cannot be classed in one genre or category.
My own film fits in to the rom/com /chick flick genre and none of these nominees are romcoms so perhaps it is a less typical genre.

Outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer Bafta Nominations

Attack The Block - Joe Cornish (director/writer)
Black Pond - Will Sharpe (director/writer), Tom Kingsley (director), Sarah Brocklehurst (producer)
Coriolanus - Ralph Fiennes (director)
Submarine - Richard Ayoade (director/writer)
Tyrannosaur - Paddy Considine (director), Diarmid Scrimshaw (producer)

The British Academy Film Awards are presented in an annual award show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). It is the British counterpart of the Oscars

Editing on Sony Vaga

The other day me and Natasha started to edit our film. First of all we decided what shots we wanted and what one would look best in the film. After that we started to trim certain shots to make them fit in with the other shots we have. We didnt have any trouble doing this, and we managed to pick up how to edit the film quite quickly.

Reasearch on Romcom's - Bridget Jones's Diary

Bridget Jones is a British Romcom. The opening scene has no titles just and intro into the film.
The first person we see is a woman called Bridget Jones who is played by RenĂ©e Zellweger going to her mothers Christmas party. During this we hear her voice over of what she is thinking.

The opening of this film is similar to what we want as we get to see the main character first and the setting which you get in most Romcoms and other films.

They use a various effects in the opening two minutes.Such as a slow motion shot when Mark turns round to look at Bridget. However this is done in a mickey take way of a conventional romance which we have become know of having the perfect person seen in slow motion through the eyes of the antagonist of the film. They have also used other shots such as having the camera at a angle when Bridget walks into her mothers house, this is to imply that her mother is quirky and not from this planet.

The Budget for this film was estimated at $26,000,000
In its opening weekend in the U.S it got $10,733,933 and was shown on 1611 screens.

Final Production Logo

This is our final logo for our production company. We went with 'Fly Producitons' as we wanted to have something simple and nothing too much.
We wanted to have this specific logo as we are trying to target a younger audience, such as girl teens.

LEVI-STRAUSS’ BINARY OPPOSITION

Narrative tension is based on opposition or conflict. This can be as simple as two characters fighting, but more often functions at an ideological level – e.g., in Westerns, what do the cowboys and Indians each represent? What ideologies are embodied by the opposed sides in LOTR or Star Wars?

BARTHES’ ENIGMA CODE

The narrative will establish enigmas or mysteries as it goes along. Essentially, the narrative functions to establish and then solve these mysteries.

PROPP’S THEORY

Vladimir Propp’s theory was formed in the early twentieth Century. He studies Russian fairytales and discovered that in stories there were always 8 types of characters evident. These are: the hero, the villain, the donor, the dispatcher, the false hero, the helper, the princess and her father. He did not state these characters were all separate people e.g. the provider could also be the helper. There are only 8 different character types and only 31 things they ever do. Once you have identified the character type (e.g., the hero) it’s easy to guess what theywill  do because each character has a SPHERE OF ACTION. This is easily relatable to films and programmes today.
Some films that use this theory are; Spiderman, Batman, Indiana Jones and the last Crusade and Star Wars.

TODOROV’S THEORY

Todorov proposed a basic structure for all narratives. He stated that films and programmes begin with an equilibrium, a calm period. Then agents of disruption cause disequilibrium, a period of unsettlement and disquiet. This is then followed by a renewed state of peace and harmony for the protagonists and a new equilibrium brings the chaos to an end. The simplest form of narrative.

We have used his theory in our film by having an equilibrium at the beginging of our film, which then builds up to an eventfull peirod in our film, which is then followed by a reasuring period of the film with a happy ending.

Editing FIlm

A couple of weeks ago we did our fisrt session of editing. First of all we had a 'muck' around just so we could get used to the new software. We did find it quite difficult as we couldnt do what we wanted to our film. We didnt get alot done because of this but were hoping to get some more done soon.

Day of filming

Our First day of fliming went pretty well. We managed to do all the shots that we needed and wanted to do. we also did some extra shots just in case we needed more than what we had. We did end up changing some of the shots that we originaly planned, such as we decided to film our sunrise from the beach instead of the East Hill as we thought it would be more effective. We did have some trouble with the camera at one point with the memory but we managed to get past that and carried on with our filming.
